Newberry writes: "I love the style and abstract quality to this these Greek cliffs The juxtaposition of the silhouettes of the sea to the rocks was really important for me. I don't know if its subtle but I use all of my 40 years of painting experience to very deliberately, and creatively arrange my compositions. For one small example I weighed the size of the sky, and how the horizontal met the rock's projection. From studying Picasso, as a teen, I pick up how he slapped lines against projections, the effect is that they buttress each other. In under an hour there is almost no way to realistically render the hundreds of these rocks' shapes, so I switched the focus to the color shifts, the abstracted forms, and the play of composition."
